The Real Reason You’re So Tired (And What to Do About It)

Let’s talk about the kind of tired that goes deeper than “I need more sleep.”

I’m talking about that foggy, drained, wiped-out feeling that creeps in before lunch, hangs over your brain all afternoon, and makes everything—from parenting to running your business—feel harder than it should.

If you’ve ever thought, “I just need to push through,” or “Maybe another Diet Coke will help,” or “Why can’t I get it together like other moms?”—this post is for you.

Because here’s the deal: You’re not lazy. You’re not doing it wrong. And you’re definitely not alone.

There’s a reason so many purpose-driven moms are running on empty right now… and more importantly, there’s something you can do about it.

It’s Not Just “Mom Life”—It’s Misalignment

Picture this: You’re juggling school pickups, deadlines, dinner, and that text you forgot to respond to three days ago. You stayed up late finishing a work project. You woke up early with a toddler in your face. You skipped breakfast (again). And now it’s 2:17 p.m., and your brain feels like it’s buffering.

Sound familiar?

This isn’t just “mom brain.” It’s burnout. It’s hormonal misalignment. It’s nutritional depletion. And it’s a culture that expects you to perform like a machine—without ever plugging you in.

According to research, 1 in 3 working moms is actively experiencing burnout (https://www.mckinsey.com/featured-insights/diversity-and-inclusion/for-mothers-in-the-workplace-a-year-and-counting-like-no-other). That’s not a personal failure. That’s a system failure.

And it’s why we need a new system—one that starts with you.

Your Energy Is Your Most Valuable Asset

At Mom MBA, we teach that your home is your headquarters—and your energy is fuel that powers it. So if you’re not managing that energy with intention, no planner or productivity hack in the world will help.

This is exactly why I brought expert nutritionist Lizzy Cangro onto the Secrets of a Mom CEO podcast and invited her to speak at the Mom CEO Conference. Because energy isn’t just about getting more done. It’s about being present, patient, and on purpose—without feeling like you’re constantly running on fumes.

And here’s what Lizzy taught us:

“You can’t pour from an empty cup—but more importantly, you shouldn’t have to.”

Why Moms Are So Disconnected From Their Energy

Part of the reason so many of us are feeling exhausted is because we’ve become disconnected from our bodies. We don’t check in. We just push through.

But your body is giving you clues—every single day.

And when you learn to listen to those clues, everything shifts.

For example, your energy isn’t the same every day—and it shouldn’t be. Women’s energy naturally rises and falls with their hormonal cycle. But we’ve been taught to ignore that, work like men, and feel guilty when we can’t “keep up.”

It’s time to unlearn that nonsense and get back in sync.

Try This Simple Energy Reset (It Takes 60 Seconds)

Here’s one of Lizzy’s favorite daily practices—and it’s so easy you can do it while you’re making your morning tea or feeding the cat.

🌀 Ask yourself: How am I feeling today—emotionally, physically, mentally?

That’s it.

It might sound simple, but this one check-in can change how you show up for your day.

Some days, your body’s ready for a workout. Other days, it’s begging for a slower morning and a few deep breaths. When you tune in, you can respond with compassion—not criticism.

This kind of micro-adjustment is where real energy management begins.

Want to Feel Better? Start Here.

If you’re ready to feel clearer, lighter, and more energized (without adding another to-do to your list), here are 3 quick wins to try this week:

1. Start eating within 90 minutes of waking up.

No, coffee doesn’t count. Get a real meal in—ideally with some protein and slow-release carbs like oats, sweet potatoes, or quinoa.

2. Download a cycle-tracking app (like Stardust).

Start noticing when your energy naturally dips and when it peaks. Awareness alone will change how you plan your week.

3. Check in with your body each morning.

You don’t have to change everything at once. Just start by listening again.
